WHAT IS DEEP TECH?
The term “Deep Tech” is normally attributed to Swati Chaturvedi, CEO of investment firm Propel(x).
“Deep technology companies are built on tangible scientific discoveries or engineering innovations. They are trying to solve big issues that really affect the world around them. For example, a new medical device or technique fighting cancer, data analytics to help farmers grow more food, or a clean energy solution trying to lessen the human impact on climate change.”
Today, the term Deep Tech is sometimes used to distinguish between incremental research findings and more disruptive forms of innovation. The latter requires years of fundamental research to bring to market, and high investment capital is often necessary to make it a reality.
WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?
We welcome deep tech startups which are founded/ co-founded by women, minorities or supporting underprivileged communities. Deep tech startups with women and minorities in leadership positions are also welcomed to apply. To fully embrace diversity and inclusion, we will also consider startups who do not fit the above requirements, but are able to show that they are seeking to change the status quo.
In short, the DeepTech Challenge is open to any person actively supporting greater gender, social and ethnic diversity in science and tech.
WHO ARE THE ORGANISERS?
We are a group of professionals in various fields who are giving personal time pro-bono to make this event happen, because we believe in the importance of fostering Deep collaboration by building on individual initiatives, highlighting worthy projects, and creating a snowball effect of Deep Collaboration amongst global citizens. We have been organising this event since 2017, and we are proud of the impact we have achieved!
